After passing your driving test you should give serious consideration to taking a "PassPlus" course.

This course is designed to make new drivers safer by focusing on acquiring experience (under the guidance of a Automatic Pass Plus Instructor) more quickly than you would do otherwise. As an incentive, you can save a lot of money on insurance by completing the course.

The Pass Plus Course

There are six modules to the course :

Town/City Driving.
Out of Town and Country Roads.
Dual Carriageways.

Night Driving.
Adverse Weather Conditions.

The course is sponsored by the Government and the Insurance Industry, and you will save up to 35% on your first year's insurance when you show the Automatic Pass Plus certificate that you will be awarded when you finish the course.

In effect you are given a years No Claim Discount immediately, and this rolls over for the next few years until you have a maximum NCD. The potential saving over the first four years can therefore add up to £100s of pounds.

The course normally requires six hours (longer in some cases) and there is not another test to take at the end, but as the course is structured around "Core Competences" you must achieve a consistent standard of improvement throughout the course.
